Poker tournament

Online poker has a lot of advantages. It foregoes the need to gather up friends at a pre-determined location and allows players to engage in a friendly game of cards in a risk-free forum, whether or not they’re playing for real money.

Unfortunately, this can lead to an impersonal gaming situation wherein nobody knows anybody else. Such a situation seems to be more about money and less about plain old having fun. And though a poker tournament is a great place to earn money, it’s also great for having fun just playing poker. So what’s there to be done when you want to play a tournament, but only against your buddies?

Most poker tournament sites have an answer, and that is to create a private table. By creating your own, private, password-protected room you can have a tournament with a group of friends and keep all those faceless strangers away from the table. And it gives you the chance to chat with one another and catch up on things in one another’s lives without strangers looking in on the conversation. You can even set the stakes of the game, and whether you want the game to have a limit or not.

Best of all it allows you the chance to directly invite the exact players you want to join in the fun. This is especially good if you want a pros-only game and know a group of hardcore players who can give you a good challenge for higher stakes than you’d get at most tables. But you have to act quickly to invite after creating the room: most poker sites allow for only a ten minute window before the tournament private room closes. If you’re not swift in your invitations some friends may be left out. So organize beforehand and get everybody included who wants to join in.

A poker tournament doesn’t have to be a faceless thing. Get the directions to the table to your friends and get them all in on the fun. It’s much easier to do than you might think, regardless of the game.
