Three card poker

Bets are of paramount importance to any game of poker, and three card poker is no exception to that rule. In order to succeed you have to know how and when to bet. There are three different places to place bets, both offline and online, when playing a game of three card poker:

1. During the ante. This bet is mandatory for entering the game in the first place, and must be done before you get to see even a single card.

2. During the play. This is usually known as a raise. You place a bet equal to the ante. This bet is done after you’ve received a card. At this point you may, having seen what you’ve got, fold and keep the rest of your money. This may be advantageous if you have a poor set and aren’t a good bluffer.

3. As an optional bet. You can throw in extra money with the hopes that you’ll get a pair or three of the same card in a three card poker round (rare given how you only have three cards to start with). If you’re successful you’ll get an extra bonus comparative to how much you bet. This is above and beyond your raise and ante, of course, which you’d get as well. Three sets of winnings for a card; not too shabby.

But you only get your winnings and payout based on the dealer’s poker hand, and for that the dealer’s hand must “qualify”; in other words, they must have a hand that’s at least queen high. You must then be capable of beating said hand.

If the dealer does not qualify for the hand by the time you lay down your own poker hand, you will not be awarded any extra money. Instead you’ll simply receive your original ante and bets back, and the total hand will stand as neutral (this is also known as a push). If they do qualify and you beat them, however, the dealer will cover both your ante, bets and any optional raises for pairs.
